Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun

Nestled on the Riviera Maya coastline just twenty minutes south of Cancun International Airport sits the lively Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun, a AAA Four Diamond resort. Kick back and relax and experience luxurious amenities beginning with 24-hour room service, limitless top-shelf spirits, pool and beach wait service, and much more.

Secrets Silversands has a very modern look with sleek decor featuring 441 suites. Not a huge resort by any means which is a nice touch in our opinion. Everything is easily within walking distance, and after the first day, you really can't get lost. There are covered walkways between all the building, so in the event of inclement weather, you can safely travel from your room to all the restaurants staying nice and dry, always a plus in our book.

This was our 4th stay a Secrets Silversands. We stayed in a Jr Suite Tropical View, not really the view we wanted but we are not in our room very much so not a big deal to us. The room was very clean and upscale. Our mini bar was restocked daily with soda, water, juice, and beer! The entire resort had free Wi-Fi including in the rooms. What really sets this resort apart, and one of the reasons we have returned is the staff. We were amazed when we went to Baracuda one night for a few drinks, and Russell, the bartender remembered exactly who we were and roughly when we were there last. It is not just one or two staff members that are extremely nice and accommodating either, it’s every single one.

Secrets Silversands features a total of 8 swimming pools, including an infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Our favorite thing about Secrets Silversands is definitely the atmosphere. The main pool was always very lively, and there are activities going on poolside all day long. We met many other couples who were also returning for another stay and that usually means something when people want to keep coming back. We were just amazed at the number of guests that lined up to join in all the activities put on the entertainment team.

The food on the resort was excellent! Our favorite restaurant was Himitsu which has two teppanyaki tables, you do have to make reservations to sit at these tables and watch the chef cook. Definitely worth taking a few minutes out of your day to make a reservation. Reservations are not needed if you want to sit at a regular table, and are not needed at any other restaurant on the resort. Oceana was also very delicious. World Cafe is where the breakfast buffet is held, there were many different items to choose from, and the omelet station was a definite favorite. Theme nights were always one of our favorite evenings, they decorate the grounds and have different dishes available to try as well as a few vendors to purchase items from if you were in the mood to shop for a few souvenirs.

Every evening started off with a trip to Veranda Bar after dinner, an outdoor lounge area that seems to be the hot gathering spot with live music or a DJ to enjoy while waiting for the show to start. Following the show, we would spend a little time at Baracuda, the beach bar nestled right along the beach. With sleek decor, an open-air atmosphere, and the sound of the ocean you were sure to meet some friendly resort goers for a nightcap. The night club Desires opens at 11pm and was the place to be. With different parties every night we had something to look forward, everything from dancing to karaoke.

A trip to the spa for a massage is always time well spent in our book. We went for a 50-minute couples massage and it did not disappoint. Keep an eye out on your visit many times they will run a 2 for 1 special which can save you a decent amount of money. With our massages, we did receive access to the hydrotherapy pool, however, we did not take advantage of this.

The only negative during our stay was the amount of seaweed in the ocean. There was a ton, not just at this resort but all up and down the coast in both directions. This is nothing the resort can really control, just Mother Nature. The staff worked tirelessly to clean up the seaweed so we have to give them props for the hard work. We spent most of our time in the pools on this trip, which is where the action was so we didn’t really mind it.

We really enjoyed our stay and would really like to check out the over pool cabanas the next time we return, they looked awesome!
